Comité Cívico del Valle, Inc. ("CCV", "we", "us") is a nonprofit organization based in Brawley, California, working on environmental health and justice in the Imperial Valley. This policy explains what information this website collects, why, and what you can do about it.
Information you give us
We only collect information you type into a form. We do not buy or import contact lists.

Email and SMS
Newsletter subscriptions use double opt-in: after you sign up we email you a confirmation link, and you only start receiving messages once you click it. Every email includes an unsubscribe link that works in one click.
Providing a mobile number is optional. We only send SMS if you check the separate SMS consent box, and messages are limited to one-time verification codes — no marketing by text. Message and data rates may apply. You can stop them at any time by replying STOP.
Information collected automatically
We use Matomo to understand which pages people read. We host Matomo on our own server, so this data is not shared with an advertising company. It records the pages visited, the referring page, and general device information.
This site sets these cookies:
- PHPSESSID — keeps your session while you use a form. Expires when you close the browser.
- _csrf — a security token that prevents forged form submissions.
- Matomo cookies — used to count visits.
We do not use advertising cookies, and we do not run ad-network trackers on this site.
Who else processes your information
- Amazon Web Services — delivers our email and, where applicable, our SMS messages. Servers are in the United States.
- GTranslate — powers the English/Spanish translation widget.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers. We may disclose information if the law requires it.
How long we keep it
We keep subscriber information until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. Messages sent through the contact form are kept while we handle your request and for a reasonable period afterwards. Event registrations are kept as a record of the event.
Your choices
- Unsubscribe — use the link at the bottom of any newsletter email.
- Update your preferences — the "manage preferences" link in our emails lets you change your name, phone and topics.
- Stop SMS — reply STOP to any message.
- Access or deletion — write to us and we will tell you what we hold about you, correct it, or delete it.
If you are a California resident, the CCPA gives you the right to know what personal information we collect, to request its deletion, and not to be discriminated against for exercising those rights. We do not sell personal information.
Children
This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page.
